LOUISA CRABAPPLE

Malus ‘LOUISA’

This is one of our favorite substitutes for weeping cherry. Light pink flowers are followed by green foliage on a rippling branch structure.

  • MATURE SIZE: 12’ TALL X 10’ WIDE

    ANNUAL GROWTH: 6-12”

SPECIFIC MAINTENANCE: REMOVE SHOOTS AT BASE OF TRUNK IN EARLY SUMMER. PRUNE AND TRAIN FOR UPWARD GROWTH OR OTHER SHAPE IF DESIRED.

GENERAL MAINTENANCE: REGULAR WATERING, STRUCTURAL PRUNING (EVERY 5-10 YRS), ANNUAL BALANCED FERTILIZER (MAY-JUNE, SLOW-RELEASE), PROTECT FROM DEER.

  • Benefits:

Spring flowers & fragrance, reddish summer foliage, orange fall color, great cold-hardiness, wind tolerant, no significant disease or pest concerns, soil adaptable. Better growth rate than Royal Beauty Crabapple.

    Drawbacks:

Small fruit drops in fall, but since this tree is so small, we’ve never received any complaints.
