Pinus edulis
Pinyon pine is unique for its gray-green color, edible nuts (eventually), and bushy foliage. It’s also rather deer resistant.

Mature Size: 15’ Tall x 10’ Wide
Annual Growth: 3-9”
Specific Maintenance: Protect from deer if snow is deep.
General Maintenance: Regular watering, Structural Pruning (every 5-10 yrs), Annual balanced fertilizer (May-June, slow-release).

Benefits:
Great cold-hardiness, wind tolerant, drought tolerant, no major disease or pest concerns, soil adaptable, storm resistant, edible nut, good deer resistance.
Drawbacks:
Slow growth, and must protect from deer in deep snow.
