FAGUS SYLVATICA ‘ROSEO-MARGINATA’

This tree is known for its bright pink spring foliage, but with the summer heat it takes on muted tones of beige, cream, and green.


  • Mature Size: 25’ Tall x 20’ Wide

    Annual Growth: 5-15”

    Specific Maintenance:

    To prevent winter damage, wrap trunk for first several winters, and keep soil moist if fall weather is warm and dry.

    To prevent or treat aphid infestation, treat with an insecticidal systemic drench each spring.

    Planting this tree in a location with afternoon shade may help extend spring color.

    General Maintenance: Regular watering, Structural Pruning (every 5-10 yrs), annual balanced fertilizer (May-June, slow-release), protect from deer.

  • Benefits:

    Spring color, summer foliage interest, strong wooded, low mess.

    Drawbacks:

    Slow growth, little fall color, very susceptible to aphids and winter sunscald.
