Annual Growth: 12-24”
Specific Maintenance: Avoid planting too deep: plant with root flare visible at soil surface. Check for girdling roots periodically, as they commonly occur in this species.
General Maintenance: Regular watering, Structural Pruning (every 5-10 yrs), Annual balanced fertilizer (May-June, slow-release), Protect from deer.

Benefits:
Non-showy but fragrant flowers, dense foliage, quick growth rate, gold fall color, great cold-hardiness, drought tolerant, soil adaptable, no major pest or disease concerns.
Drawbacks:
Seed litter drops July-August, often sticky from aphid excretions. Sometimes this species snaps off at the base in heavy wind storms, due to their soft wood and tendency for girdling roots.
