Specific Maintenance: Protect from deer (all year), Iron Treatment as needed, annual Systemic drench treatment to prevent borers (May).
General Maintenance: Regular watering, Structural Pruning (every 5-10 yrs), annual balanced fertilizer (May-June, slow-release).

Benefits:
White Bark, Native species, Low mess, Good Growth rate (when healthy), gold fall color, leaves flutter in the breeze.
Drawbacks:
Short-lived at lower elevations, Constant root suckers (best used in wild plantings), Weak wood (breakage is common), tree contracts fungal disease as it matures, very susceptible to borers.
